Catalina Terrace is 50 years old this year! We are celebrating on Saturday Sept. 10, 2011 with the Flip Flop Gala to raise money for the CTAP Pool Renovation Fund.
As all 50-year olds know, your infrastructure can use some renovation. Much of the pool’s infrastructure is needing major repair or replacement. Rather than waiting for disaster to strike, we transferred the pool to new non-profit organization, Catalina Terrace Athletic Program, to facilitate raising the substantial capital required to update and repair the pool.
After more than a year of researching, we determined the best course was to renovate the existing pool rather than expand it. Costs for expansion were prohibitive due to City and State code requirements. We are now moving ahead with plans to raise the needed $150,000 in the next 3 years, and then renovate the pool during the break between swimming seasons.
A team of volunteers is working to make the 50 Anniversary Gala an evening to remember! We are asking businesses to become event sponsors and merchants to donate goods and services for the silent auction. Proceeds from the Gala will be put toward Phase I of the pool renovation project. $150,000 is needed to re-plaster the pool, install a
new filtration system, and upgrade the electric and water lines. Your generous contribution will ensure that future generations of families will enjoy the benefits of a community-oriented athletic facility in the heart of Tucson.
We hope you will support our fund-raising effort. Please keep in mind that Catalina Terrace Athletic Program is a 501(c)3 organization. The ways you can help are:
- Donate an item for the silent auction (download form below)
- Provide items for participant goody-bags – 350 attendees expected (download form below)
- Contribute money or provide in-kind assistance as a business sponsor (again download the form below and see page 3)
The following pages to download provide the information you need to donate auction items, provide goody-bag inserts and/or serve as an event sponsor. All individuals and businesses that assist us with the Flip-Flop Gala will be recognized in printed materials and on our website - www.ctmarlins.com. Every contribution is appreciated and we thank you in advance for your kindness.

Please join us in raising the money to save our pool. CTAP Board Members and Flip Flop Gala Committee Members will be selling tickets at the meets – please look for them. You can also purchase tickets on-line right here on this page. Check out the Sponsor Page
Tickets will remain at $50.00 through September 7, 2011 to allow people who just heard about the event to attend at the preferred rate.

My father Edward Lucz managed Catalina Terrace in 1960 for approx. 12 years. My family belonged to pool and my sisters and myself were on the swim team, until 1979 when Catalina High School built their pool. I am excited to be joining you. Tricia Lucz Foster
Jerri Zinsli (Canfield) told me about the upcoming 50th and I plan to come. My brother, Mark Kleinsmith was a coach for the Catalina Terrace Dolphins. The Bogue/ Kleinsmith family grew up with many, many dear memories of “The Pool”. I hope to see some familiar faces. Jane Kleinsmith
